nyc was sooo hot. wow, i thought toronto was gross..it had nuthin on nyc. well, maybe it's cuz i tend to not be active when it's 50 degrees in toronto. anyways, we arrived at newark on sat around 10am. by the time we got to the hotel, it was 11 or so, but we couldn't check in yet so we just left our bags and went into SoHo. Originally we thought we could walk it...um 40 blocks is really far. We decided to take the subway instead. wow, it's really hot down 3 levels with stagnant air! got into soho and walked around..such big buildings! so many stores! too bad i was not in the mood for shopping...we stopped for lunch at a place called Dos Caminos. The gucamole was their specialty..i felt lightheaded after one margarita..must've been the heat. the cobb salad and tacos were so yummy! ah setting the restaurant-bar level high on our first meal! so we went into the apple store..it was insane busy! it was two floors and there were people just milling about..nothing special going on..i guess this is the usual traffic?? so many ipod accessories..shoulda got some but just wasn't in that kind of mood to spend moolah.
headed back to the hotel around 6 and passed out. so tired from walking and the heat. when i woke up and looked at the clock it was 10:30pm!! blah so didn't feel like going out..'can we get room service?' of course we didn't stay in tho..it's sat nite in new york..sigh..gotta make the effort. we went to a restaurant that i can't remember the name of..the food was okay...drinks are so pricey here! 11 bucks just for a mixed drink..ok it's martinis for me! (Same price!) went back to the hotel afterwards..man i'm so old...well i feel old at least..blame it on the walking around that made me so sleepy ;)
sunday, got up early..ok, well got up at 9. planned to do the tourist siteseeing stuff...empire state building had a huge line up, and so did the statue of liberty. sigh..ok so headed over to brooklyn bridge and took lotsa pics. ran into two couples getting married and taking pics by the pier...(who gets so much lace? in a two tone? ewwie) went to houston's for lunch. wow ribs and roast beef sandwich! went to the MET and then went thru central park...so nice there! totally not scary (then again it was sun afternoon)...
went back to the hotel to nap again but this time got up at 9pm. went to Park Avalon for dinner...the food was pretty good altho didn't like dessert so much. still, it had a nice atmosphere and live jazz band...kinda felt like i was in south beach miami! took a cab and stopped in times square for a bit...i can't believe how insane it is there...i bet this is like HK on a small scale..so many lights...
monday, got up and went shopping for a bit before heading to la guardia at 11am. oh so sad the trip came and went just like that...lotsa fun..even tho i didn't buy much..just a pair of shoes! i think i'm more cut out for the lying-on-a-beach vacation!
